From the canyon of Kasakh River rises Araler mountain. From the summit of the mountain opens a fabulous view of Ararat and Aragatz mountains. Nearby, on the slopes of Araler is located Zoravar church. When you look at the mountain from a distance, it seems as if a giant lies there. According to the legend, in a battle between Armenian and Assirian forces, Armenian king Ara the Handsome placed his troops under Araler and Assirian queen Shamiram (Semiramis) under Hatis mountain. The Armenian king died on the field heroically. The mountain now symbolizes king's honorable name. The stone giant has become a unique symbol of Armenian nation's struggle against invaders.
